Is it true that some employers won't hire possible job candidates if they have a myspace accoun

Is it true that some employers won't hire possible job candidates if they have a myspace account? I was told that some employers scope out myspace to see if any of the job applicants have a myspace or not. If some of them happen to have one, even if it's on private or if they're able to view it, they won't hire them. Is this true?

That is not true. They may look at your myspace account, but if you have nothing to hide then don't worry about it. It was on Oprah the other day that people were questioning the content on some of the facebook accounts. They were posting pictures of themselfs drunk and passed out and hugging the toilet. If I were an employer looking at that I would question if the person was responsible or not and that would probably stop me from hiring them. That would be the only thing that they would look at. So like I said, if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about.

I have never ever heard of that before. Employers will hire you because of your skills and work history and experience. That has never changed.

I hope that isn't true! If anything, you could just make it so that they can't search for you by first and last name and don't give them the e-mail address you use to sign into myspace. This way, they can't find you!

i doubt it nearly everyone has a myspace. i suppose if you have a lot of drunken pictures on there or stuff like that it might seem like ur not the best candidate...

It is true with more and more jobs nowadays. Employers will check you out, just like they check credit and drug use. It pays to represent yourself well in all mediums always preparing for where you want to head in life!

As a hiring manager I would check out a potential candidate and their page would make a difference as it is a representation of who they are...

I don't think that it's a case that you won't be hired if you have a MySpace account; rather, I think potential employers are going there to see if you have shared anything on your page that could be questionable. Having a private account, to me, wouldn't be a red flag - I think it's what you post that can be read that needs to be appropriate.

I never heard they won't hire you if you have a myspace account but If you have inappropriate pictures on there thay won't hire you.
